Bill Werkheiser authored 3 bills this legislative session. Gov Deal signed all 3 into law yesterday.
HB 319 will save Tattnall County taxpayers $20,000 a year. It raised the cap on Habeas Corpus reimbursements which was needed because of the number of State inmates in Tattnall. Senators Jack Hill and Blake Tillery helped draft and carry this in the Senate.
HB 243 will prevent cities and counties from enacting local legislation which would require businesses to adopt long term “predictive scheduling” policies. It will make sure that Georgia has a single, unified employment policy in place. This does not prevent a company from having a predictive schedule policy, but they simply cannot be mandated by local governments.
HB 261 will allow offenders who qualify to retroactively apply to have their record expunged if they meet certain criteria and the nature of the crime allows them to petition under the current First Offender statute. Both prosecutors and defenders wanted a solution for these situations.
